Can Chinese candle exports survive 60.3% EU duty?
On January 26, 2026, the EU imposed final anti‑dumping duties of 56.7%–60.3% on Chinese‑origin candles (including tealight candle, stick candle, fluted candle, pillar candle, 7‑day glass candle, ghee candles, etc.), effective for five years from January 27.
The EU found that Chinese candles raised market share from 13% to 22% and undercut EU prices by 19%–43.2%, causing material injury.
Covered products include smokeless candle, no‑tear candle, long‑burning (4/6/8/24/72 hours) tealights candle in aluminum/metal cups, pressed/poured paraffin wax candles, scented/colored candle, church/prayer/religious candle, wedding/party/home decor candles, cotton wick candle, OEM/custom label candle, etc.
Facing 60.3% duties, most exporters see profits erased. The EU warns against circumvention via third countries. How can Chinese candle exporter adjust their strategy?
