Behind the Christmas Orders: Chinese Foreign Trade Companies Ensuring a Smooth Global Holiday Season
(Report by Zhao Lin) In the early hours of December 24th, the Yantian Port in Shenzhen remained brightly lit. Containers filled with Christmas decorations, smart lighting, and warm clothing were being loaded onto cargo ships in an orderly manner, with the words “Merry Christmas” painted vividly on the ship’s sides. These goods, sourced from foreign trade companies in Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu, would arrive at ports such as Los Angeles, Hamburg, and Sydney just in time for the holidays.

“Seven out of every ten Christmas tree ornaments worldwide come from China’s supply chain,” revealed Chen Ming, a representative of the Yiwu Christmas Products Industry Association. This year, foreign trade companies have widely adopted a “fast-response mode”: leveraging cross-border e-commerce data to predict overseas demand and reducing the traditional six-month production cycle to just 45 days. Zhou Qian, a manager at a foreign trade company, displayed a real-time tracking screen: “This Christmas ornament, now in a Chicago warehouse, went from production in Wenzhou to store shelves in just nine days.”

What makes this even more heartwarming is not just the speed. Many foreign trade companies have incorporated “Chinese-style romance” into their products—wool socks exported to Northern Europe are embroidered with the Chinese seal script characters for “平安” (peace), while electronic candle lights shipped to the Middle East come with interchangeable cutouts of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs. A toy factory in Ningbo placed handwritten greeting cards in the pockets of plush snowman dolls, with messages like: “May this warmth accompany you through the long winter nights.”

“Foreign trade professionals are the invisible guardians of the holidays,” commented a Ministry of Commerce expert. “They bridge time zones and languages, infusing the warmth of Chinese manufacturing into Christmas dinners, gift boxes, and storefronts around the world. When children everywhere unwrap their gifts, the joy they feel is backed by the tireless work and glowing lights of countless Chinese factories.”

Cargo ships on the seas, data in the cloud, and the interplay of light and shadow on assembly lines together weave the intricate web of warmth this Christmas season. Through perseverance and innovation, Chinese foreign trade professionals have bridged mountains and oceans to spread the joy of the holidays, ensuring that “Made in China” becomes a meaningful part of global festive memories. With this heartfelt message from production lines and customs declarations, we extend our gratitude to everyone spreading goodwill amid the waves of globalization—may every corner of the world share in this moment of joy and look forward to the dawn of tomorrow. Merry Christmas!
